Suzka Designs is a registered trade name of a Barbadian Jewelry
Artist, Suzanne Terho, who specializes in creating hand crochet
wire and thread jewelry.
Suzanne learned crocheting from her mother as a teenager
growing up in Barbados. After spending her early adulthood in
New York City studying dance and acting she returned to
Barbados in mid-90's where she currently resides with her
husband of 15 years (Jukka) and their two children, Niko and
Nikita.
A few years back Suzanne resumed crocheting again and started
first making bathing suits for her daughter as well as belts and
handbags for herself. Soon her friends began ordering various
crochet items from her and from the feedback received she
realized that there is a high demand, but very few suppliers of
high quality one-of-a-kind hand crochet items. She started
experimenting with hand crochet jewelry and incorporating
semi-precious stones, pearls, beads, and crystals into her
creations. Next came experimenting with crocheting metal wire
which proved quite challenging first but with time and hard work
she realized that she was able to produce high guality wire
crochet jewelry and the response to her early creations was
extremely positive, which motivated her further.
Wire crocheting is time consuming and requires very good
crocheting skills and thus there are only a few jewelry artists in
the world that has been capable to mastering this art. This
makes all Suzka pieces truly rare and unique.
Suzka Designs is a true "one-family-show". All Suzka jewelry
boxes are hand decorated with authentic Barbados beach sand
and sea shells by her husband and children. Her husband is also
responsible for the website creation and photographs of jewelry.
